Rick Smith

Partner & Head Of Marketing & Sales

Rick’s entire career has been spent in the technology business spending seventeen years employed by NCR Corporation in various sales and marketing positions in New York City and New Jersey.

Rick’s strong entrepreneurial skills led him to create National Computer Resources with Richard Dilts as well as Campus Computer Exchange, Inc., a successful technology / leasing consulting firm. Rick was involved with many successful projects for a wide range of clients including American Express, Toys R Us, and the creation and implementation of web hosting hub sites for AT&T.

While both Rick and Rich pursued different paths for a time, their interest in New Jersey education brought them together again and in 2002 they merged their talents to form Genesis Educational Services. Their unique blend of skills and abilities has created a program to be proud of.

Rick is a lifelong resident of New Jersey where he resides with his wife Pat and has raised and educated four children within the New Jersey school system with great pride. Rick is a graduate of Rider University.

Richard W. Dilts

Designer & Partner

Rich Dilts has been involved with the development of five (5) major Student Record Systems including the following:

  • NCR Scholars
  • NCR V-Stars
  • CCL Stars
  • Natcom “SAMS”

In addition to these development efforts, Mr. Dilts started his career as the MIS Director at Hunterdon Central Regional High School District and created, through custom programs, Hunterdon’s Student Record System.

Genesis is the latest and most evolved product to be produced as a result of Rich’s management and technical history.

In addition to this wide range of industry and technical expertise, Rich is intimately involved with current and former data structures, procedures and New Jersey state reporting requirements.

Rich Dilts has built a technology team consisting of people well versed in all technology such as Oracle, Java, etc. and data conversion techniques.

Rich is the proud father of two and makes his home in Jamesburg, New Jersey. He is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati with a degree in electrical engineering.

Dave Sponheimer & Chris Zinn

Partner, Lead Designers and Developers

Dave and Chris spent nearly a decade developing and implementing technologies for businesses ranging from the Financial to Pharmaceutical sectors.  Together they founded Forge-Tech, Inc. where they continued to develop custom turn-key solutions for such customers as Glaxo SmithKline, Schering Plough,  and The Hartford Group.

In 2002, they formed Genesis Educational Services along Rich and Rick.  Blending their backgrounds in education and state-of-the-art application development,  they together created the Genesis Student Information System.

Despite entering another decade of residing in side-by-side offices , Dave and Chris continue to work together on a daily basis in the Genesis Development offices along with Senior Project Designer, John Sponheimer in Martinsville NJ.  They all have young children being educated in New Jersey school districts.

Karen Ferrante

Director of In-Service

Karen Weeks Ferrante holds a BA from Gettysburg College in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.  She has many years of experience with student information software programs, specifically dealing with school districts in New Jersey.

She began her career as a technical writer for an educational software house in New Jersey, writing the user documentation for the company’s student record-keeping system. After several years as a technical writer, she moved into the company’s marketing department as a marketing support representative and then as a sales representative.

She began working for the Asbury Park Board of Education’s Information Technology Center (ITC).  The ITC was an enterprise run by the Board of Education that sold and supported educational administrative software to other school districts in New Jersey. Karen spent several years as the Manager of Educational In-Service for the ITC, supporting the ITC’s student management software in over 30 districts.  In 2005, the Asbury Park ITC partnered with Genesis Educational Services and replaced their system with the Genesis Student Software System. Karen implemented Genesis into the 30+ New Jersey School Districts using the ITC’s student program.

In 2006, Karen went to work for Genesis Educational Services as the Director of In-Service where she continues to implement and support their software packages in school districts throughout New Jersey as well as manage the Genesis Customer Service Department.

Jan Russak


Jan Russak holds a BA in Computer Science from Cornell University and an MA in Education & Psychology from Seton Hall. She has years of experience with application design and programming and implementation of student information systems in New Jersey public school districts.

Jan began her career working with the Unix Application Organization at AT&T Bell Labs in, successively, Piscataway, Murray Hill and Lincroft, NJ and then with Sun Microsystems, Inc., both in NJ and California, initially as a Systems Engineer. After the creation of the World Wide Web Jan became an early Java Evangelist.

Jan has worked as part of Genesis Educational Services since its founding in early 2002 and is responsible for the initial design of the Genesis user interface. She is a partner in the company.

Currently Jan specializes in the Genesis Gradebook, the Nurse’s and Parents modules and in the Genesis ReportWriter as well as the Genesis Payroll Budget Systems. She produces the Genesis Newsletter does numerous trainings and works directly as Account Representative for a number of districts.  Jan is married and her two children have been educated in New Jersey school districts as well as Rutgers University.

Virginia Thomsen

Director of Administration

Gin Thomsen brings many years of financial and administrative experience to the Genesis Team not including the years spent successfully operating a family business while raising her three daughters.

Gin worked directly for the Corporate Education Controller of Unisys where she was involved with the financial implementation of training for customers and employees as well as the operation of student housing facilities.  After Unisys relocated this organization to Blue Bell, Pa., Gin became an executive assistant to the Vice President of Lehrer McGovern Bovis where she was active in the creation of many projects from the US Olympics in Atlanta, Ga., the build-out of Camden Yard for the Baltimore Orioles, the Pittsburgh Penguins ice arena, the Rutgers University sports complex and the luxury boxes for the New York Giants at the Meadowlands.

 Gin joined Rick Smith and Rich Dilts at National Computer Resources and has remained with both of them in some capacity ever since.

As Director of Administration, Gin is charged with the general operational, financial and personnel duties for Genesis.

Gin and her husband Ron reside in Columbus, New Jersey. They raised and educated their daughters in East Windsor, New Jersey.

Jill Berenato

Senior Account Manager

Jill Berenato earned a BS, in Accounting, from St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, PA. Jill came to work at Genesis utilizing her sales and marketing skills with school districts in New Jersey.

Jill began her career as an Account Administrator with IBM Corporation in Philadelphia. She quickly elevated to outside sales. She combined her passion for education and experience in sales and accepted a position, with Scholastic Registry, to market exclusively to school districts in New Jersey. Since that time, she has made it her career to market to and work closely with school districts in New Jersey.

In 2007, Jill joined Genesis Educational Services. After researching numerous organizations, she chose Genesis for their superior customer service and commitment to excellence. As an Account Manager for Genesis, Jill has been directly responsible for securing and managing more than 200 School Districts in the New Jersey market.

Jill is a lifetime resident of New Jersey and she and her husband reside in Woolwich, New Jersey.

Brian DeLucia

Director SchoolFi Payroll and Budgetary Accounting

Brian DeLucia holds a masters degree in Business Administration and a BS in Accounting from Clarion University of Pennsylvania.  He started his professional career as a Senior Auditor for Ernst & Young, LLP, one of the largest professional services firms in the world.

For over 20 years Brian has also served school districts in the state of New Jersey as their School Business Administrator.  He is known throughout the state for his expertise in accounting and financial reporting related to school districts.  Brian has served on numerous state-level committees and he chaired the International Association of School Business Officials Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting committee for six years.

Brian is married and the father of three.  His family is actively involved in numerous community-based organizations and on weekends you can usually find Brian on the soccer and lacrosse field.  He makes his home in Toms River.
